The Maharishi told me that the other disciples of Brahmanand - and 
there are thousands of them - 'do not tally with me now'. It is in fact
evident that among most of India's holy men he is regarded as a kind 
of heretic or at least a dangerous and misguided reformer. Even 
ordinary Indians look askance at what they consider his intention to 
'popularise mysticism'. 18
