Desire and aversion are the reasons a person falls into misfortune. From that, they endure horrible torture in both this world and the other world. It is not impossible to obtain victory over desire and aversion, but it requires resolute practice. While practicing, many occasions come in which one can slip. However, at such times one should control oneself. 

If we correct our desires, there will be no place for aversion. The best place for attachment is really Paramatma, which really is the truth, which really is "ananda", 'bliss'. Due to impressions rooted in ignorance with regard to Paramatma, this world appears to be evident, in the same manner as a rope appears to be a snake. It is due to such unyielding faith (in delusion) of mankind , whose reality is like the existence of the son of a barren woman, that mahatma people perceive the "advaita", 'non-dual' Paramatma everywhere.
