This starts with a introduction in English, probably by translator Mr. Jaiswal, then the Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath intones verses from Sanskrit prayers before speaking to the audience.' The first two verses which he recites are very popular Shanti Mantras . First is Yajurveda Taittiriya Upanishad, Atha Brahmavallyadhyaaya.H, 2.2.2 , also from the Skanda Upanishad, #51/108 Krishna-Yajur Ved, Samanya. AUM saha naavavatu saha nau bhunaktu . sahaviiryaM karavaavahai . tejasvinaavadhiitamastu . maa vidvishhaavahai . AUM shaantiH shaantiH shaantiH .. AUM Let us together (saha) be protected (na vavatu), let us together (saha) be nourished (bhunaktu) Let us together (saha) join in strength (veeryam) for the benefit of humanity (karvaa vahai). Let our efforts at learning be luminous (tejasvi) and endowed with the force of purpose (vadhita mastu). Let us never (maa) be poisoned (vishaa) with the seeds of hatred for anyone. AUM Peace! Peace! Peace! Apparently, the second Shanti Mantra is to be found in the Mundaka Upanishad, Mandukya Upanishad and Prashna Upanishad, and is also known as Shanti Manta for Upanishads of Atharva Veda. AUM bhadraM karNebhiH shR^iNuyaama devaaH . bhadraM pashyemaakshabhiryajatraaH .. sthirairaN^gaistushhTuvaa.nsastanuubhiH . vyashema devahitaM yadaayuH .. AUM shaantiH shaantiH shaantiH .. AUM Ye Gods (devaaH)! May we hear with our ears only what is auspicious (bhadram), may we see with our eyes only what is auspicious (bhadram). May we sing praises to ye and enjoy with strong limbs and body, the life alloted to us by the gods. AUM Peace! Peace! Peace! After that Swami Shantanand Saraswati addresses those in London and basically blesses everyone, wishing them enlightenment. *** Thanks to Neeraj Varma for his valuable response to an enquiry on the content of this sound file. www.paulmason.info
